Cruelty Free Living
The Makeup List
When I first found out that cosmetics were being tested on animals, I was outraged. I didn't understand why an innocent bunny, dog, cat, or rat had to give up their body and life for a simple mascara or lipstick. I saw the true nature of big brand companies when photos of animals were released online. Beagles who had lost their eyes, bunnys' ears burned, monkeys cowering in the corner of tiny cages, the list goes on.
You can actually see the pain and terror in their eyes-if they have any eyes left after these cruel and unnecessary experiments. Big Brand companies such as L'Oreal, Maybelline, and Cover Girl and distributor companies such as Proctor&Gamble and Unilever are some of the biggest animal testers and abusors. Another thing I noticed about these companies is that they constantly advertise on TV and they take up a lot of the shelf space in stores. It seems obvious that they would do this, but it made me think about how so many people don't know about the horrors of animal testing-or they choose to ignore it. If more and more people bought cruelty free items and boycotted companies that tested ingredients or products on animals, supply and demand would take hold and those cruelty free companies would be at the top instead of the abusors. E.L.F., Pacifica, Physician's Formula, and many other cruelty free cosmetic companies are rising up-but they need our help to get to the top and replace the cruel companies. Here is a list of all of the cruelty free cosmetic companies, including vegan companies. Some of these cruelty free companies are on my "Time-out" List since these cruelty free companies were bought by a company who tests and abuses animals (aka the Parent Company). Even though these companies may still offer cruelty free finds, anything you buy from them will profit their parent company instead of the cruelty free company!

Half-Way List: Companies that don't test on animals, however their parent company does. This is completely up to you if you want to purchase items from these brands. It's awesome that they don't personally test on animals, but their profits will go to the parent company that does conduct testing.
